[font=Tahoma][size=medium][color=black] "Tip from the Old Guy" It may be a scary thought, but we are PROFESSIONAL referees! It is very important that we look and act professional as a referee team. By presenting a good appearance, we may acheive some degree of respect from the players, the coaches, and the fans, at least till we make the first call of the evening! To get the team off to a good start, we should normally plan to meet in the parking lot (1st game of the evening), and be prepared to walk onto the field, properly dressed, as a team, ~30 minutes prior to the scheduled kickoff time. This should allow time for a good pre-game briefing and for the other necessary duties prior to kickoff. It may be helpful (my strong recommendation) that the team make contact (phone call or email) no later than the night before the game to discuss the meeting place, time, and planned uniform (we will generally know from experience what colors the teams will most likely be wearing - but also plan your alternates). If the first match is a dual and the second is a 3-man, the center ref should arrive ~30 minutes prior to the expected kickoff time, to allow for a good pregame (try to give the dual team a short break, if time permits). More "Tips from the Old Guy" to come (unless you tell me to knock it off) as the season progresses.
